Physicians pressed to adopt online records (Internet
Healthcare Magazine)
"Many industry experts believe that the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act of 1996 also will compel physicians to
automate medical records. Paulo Andre, CEO of
MDInteractive, a Brookline, Mass.-based company that offers online medical
records and database applications, says HIPAA will have
major impact on physicians.
It will require physicians, he contends, to adopt electronic systems for two reasons. First,
physicians will need to keep track of who accesses medical information. Second, to expedite that
chore, they will want a system that enables them to allocate access to records based on a staff
person's role."
