Urinary Dripping

Question:

Many times after urinating I get just enough dripping from my penis that it causes an embarrassing wet spot on my pants.I know every male gets some dripping after urinating, but this has caused me some embarrassment. The problem seems to happen whether I am wearing baggy pants or tight pants. What can be causing this seemingly excessive dripping?

Answer:

Post void dribbling can be caused by a variety of causes. The most common is that related to a dilated bulbus urethra (area of urethra beyond the sphincter-area of control mechanism).

After urination a small amount of urine pools in this area of the urethra and then dribbles out later with change in position and activity. Sometimes patients with narrowing (strictures) beyond the control area of the urethra will have post urination dribble because of pooling proximal to the narrowed area. Occasionally patients with prostatic enlargement or irritation or swelling will have dribbling.

If you feel the amount is in excess you should consult a urologist to have an evaluation.
